Lancaster Law Group practices out of 110 East King Street, directly across from the Lancaster County Courthouse. Our attorneys are in that courthouse regularly, custody conferences, divorce hearings, support matters, trials. If you work here, that is the job. You will not spend your first two years reviewing documents in a back office while someone else argues your case.

What the work looks like here
You get courtroom time early
Our office is across the street from the Lancaster County Court of Common Pleas. Attorneys here appear at conferences and hearings as a routine part of the week, not as an occasional assignment handed down after three years of proving yourself. You will learn how the Lancaster County bench actually runs a custody conference by standing in one.
Direct client contact
You will meet the client. You will answer the client’s questions. You will explain the process in a way the client can understand, and you will return the call the same day when you can. That is a firm standard, not a preference, it is the promise the firm makes on every page of its website, and the people who work here are the ones who keep it.
Work that is not abstract
Family law clients are dealing with their children, their home, and their finances at the same time, usually on the worst timeline of their lives. The work is demanding. It is also the kind of work where you can see exactly what your preparation was worth.
Who we hire
- Attorneys licensed in Pennsylvania, or eligible for admission. We look for people who want to build a practice rather than fill a seat.
- People who write clearly. Family law runs on pleadings, agreements, and correspondence that a judge and a frightened client both have to be able to follow.
- People who stay organized under load. You would carry your own caseload with support from our paralegals.
- People who are steady with clients on hard days. Much of this job is sitting across from someone at the worst point of their year.

About the firm
Joseph P. McMahon founded Lancaster Law Group in 2013, after clerking at the Lancaster County Court of Common Pleas and serving as an Assistant District Attorney in Lancaster County. Shawnee S. Burton joined as a founding partner in 2015; her entire career has been built in complex family law litigation. The rest of the attorneys and paralegals who make up the firm are a small and long-tenured group which is the point.
The office sits in downtown Lancaster at 110 East King Street, with metered parking out front and the East King Street garage less than a minute’s walk away. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
